PhysioCare is a mobile health app designed to support patients through their physiotherapy journey at home. The goal was to create a product that not only delivers accurate exercise guidance but also provides emotional support and motivation — something often lacking in the current digital physiotherapy solutions. This project focused on building trust, clarity, and human connection through thoughtful UX design, helping users feel understood, confident, and empowered in their recovery.
During our research phase, it became clear that the challenges patients face during at-home physiotherapy are both practical and emotional. Many users reported skipping exercises due to their hectic routines, while others admitted that they often lacked the motivation to stay consistent. Compounding the issue was the frequent confusion caused by text-based instructions, which often led to improper exercise techniques and increased the risk of injury. Most importantly, patients expressed that they often felt isolated — missing the reassurance and feedback they usually receive during in-person sessions. These insights drove our core mission: to create a digital companion that doesn't just instruct, but supports.
The design process began with primary and secondary research, including surveys and empathy interviews with individuals recovering from injury and chronic pain. These insights were synthesized into personas and user journey maps, highlighting key pain points such as confusion around instructions, inconsistent routines, and emotional frustration. Based on these findings, we wireframed and prototyped the app using Figma, gradually progressing from low to high fidelity. We then conducted usability testing with a small group of users, whose feedback helped refine the onboarding flow, improve video visibility, and simplify logging interactions.
Our design choices were guided by clarity, accessibility, and warmth. We used soft colors, rounded UI elements, and calm typography to make the app feel approachable. More than anything, we wanted PhysioCare to feel like a compassionate companion, not just a productivity tool. The language throughout the interface was intentionally friendly and supportive, avoiding cold clinical terminology.
Initial feedback from test users was overwhelmingly positive. Users reported feeling more confident in their recovery process and appreciated having a structured, yet flexible tool to guide them. Many found motivation in seeing their progress laid out in small, daily wins, while others noted that the motivational messages and reminders helped reduce feelings of frustration or loneliness. Therapists we consulted also saw value in PhysioCare’s progress logs, which they could use to monitor adherence and adjust plans accordingly.
By combining practical features like video instructions and reminders with thoughtful emotional support and education, PhysioCare creates a more balanced and empathetic physiotherapy experience. It empowers users to take charge of their health while feeling supported every step of the way.
The initial version of PhysioCare focused on its core functions: visual exercise guidance, motivational support, progress tracking, and scheduling. In future iterations, we aim to add features such as video-based teleconsultations, deeper symptom analytics, and a more robust community experience. These enhancements will further strengthen PhysioCare’s role as a full-circle recovery platform.
